The Book Room

Do you like books? Libraries? I love them - there's nothing like the smell of old books, the feel of time-worn paper. You can't see my house but I have books everywhere - stacked on shelves, going up my staircase, in baskets. And I love upcycling books - you can search for them on my blog!

This book has been transformed into a book room - a snapshot of a library. I remember visiting an old library in Massachusetts a few years back that was truly classic: built-in wood bookcases, wood desks, sliding ladders, old card catalogs with metal drawer pulls. That's what inspired me with this project - and my love of books.

Card catalogs line one side and the other side has lined paper - where else do you begin writing a great novel? An old desk piled with books, a girl delving into a book of her own, smaller card catalog drawers set the scene to immerse yourself in other worlds and times through the pages of a book. There's also a wood religious book open to a sacred text.

The pages of the book are the central design, like a dome-like cupola adorning a rounded wall.

There's a little niche that holds books and a gentleman using the ladder to reach them.

Working with books is so rewarding. You can fold them, carve them, paint them - little works of art.

  7. Kathy this is incredible, I keep scrolling back up to examine a little bit more. So many details to take in the folded book pages make a great podium for the sweet girl to sit in peace to read her book. Adult or child i'd love to play with a scene just like this. Thanks so much for sharing this genius creation over @ Creative Artiste. Creative wishes Tracey (DT)
